The Embilipitiya Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman Wijaya Witanage (UPFA) today joined the UNP to contest the forthcoming Sabaragamuwa Province Provincial Council election representing the UNP from the Ratnapura district.
UNP Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe handed over the appointment letter to Mr. Witanage today.
Speaking at a news conference Wijaya Witanage said he had decided to join the main opposition, as he was finding it difficult to serve the people while at his present post.
“I might not be able to carry out large-scale development projects while in the opposition, but with our individual capabilities, our leadership and our creative thinking we will be able to empower the people,” he said. (Nishan Casseem)

There will be several 'wooden horses' that will be planted in the UNP, like the story of the Helen of Troy. Where are their real loyalties?
Al Rasa Wednesday, 18 July 2012 05:11 AM
Lost nomination from UPFA and gained from UNP. Opposition is in a good policy.

Just for the record Talata Atukorala MP refused to allow Witanage to contest under UNP in the last PS. So Namal promptly took him, and not only did he win, he won so big, he became one of youngest PS chairman.
It was a lesson really for Talata, for blaming RW for losing, as this time we must blame Talata. Remember if he had been given the UNP ticket the PS would have been definitely UNP as they lost by on a few votes.
