Minister WImal Weerawansa said Japanese children are known to be intelligent because they consume a large quantity of Tuna (Balaya) fish.

“How did the Japanese rise after being destroyed by the war? How did their brains develop to the extent of being able to produce technological marvels? They changed their style of consumption and education. They used to catch hordes of Tuna (Balaya) fish and consume it. There is no other fish that helps intelligence as much as the Tuna (Balaya) fish. Japanese children became intelligent because of the consumption of Tuna (Balaya) fish in large quantities” he said.

The outspoken Minister made these remarks at a ceremony held recently in Mulleriyawa.

The minister urged Sri Lankans also to eat ‘Tuna’ (Balaya) in large quantities and not discard them as being too “heaty”.

Tuna can be a good source of omega-3 fatty acids. It can contain 300 milligrams (0.011 oz) per serving.[76] However, the level of omega-3 oils found in canned tuna is highly variable, since some common manufacturing methods destroy much of the omega-3 oils in the fish.[77] Tuna is also a good source of protein.

    nimal Tuesday, 12 February 2013 11:06 AM

Do you still eat tuna because you think it's good for you? In fact, the latest scientific research shows that eating tuna is hazardous to your health. Here are the top 10 reasons to let tuna off the hook.

    1. Brain Rot!
Tuna fish accumulate toxic mercury in their flesh as a result of industrial pollution, and the side effects of mercury poisoning include finger curling, cognitive impairment, and coordination problems. A California boy, who was the subject of a front-page Wall Street Journal article, went from being a star athlete and honor student to being unable to concentrate or catch a football because he ate canned tuna. Even if he had eaten only half a can of albacore tuna a week, he still would have consumed 60 percent more mercury than is considered "safe" by the U.S. government.

after ww the japs worked hard, were truthful to every yen earned and sacrificed a lot. they were the first to honour their souls and families, remember, when caught " harakiri " was their answer for dishonest. they have a honest workforce,a good governance policy , their prime ministers and parliamentarians even resign when theirs sub ordinates fail or cheat etc etc, eating balaya! OR kelawall( widely know as tuna in the tinned fish variety) could have contributed a mere 1% to their growth.
maybe we can try with our political wanns's,silvas' pakshas' singhes' on a daily dose of balaya course three time a day 365 days from today.!

Both tuna and fish contain high amounts of Omega-3 which are highly beneficial for the brain. In addition to that, B6 vitamin and other beneficial nutrients are contained by fish, so eat as much fish as you can in order to boost you intelligence.

Actually, there are 2 types of Tuna found in SL:
    1. Yellowfin Tuna which is known as Kelewella
    2. Skipjack Tuna (or Oceanic/ Artic Bonito) which is known as Balaya

Although Skipjack Tuna is an acceptable name for Balaya, a lot of people (especially the older generations) call it Bonito
