UNP leader Ranil Wickremesinghe is to take disciplinary action against three MPs- Palitha Range Bandara, Palitha Thewarapperuma and Asoka Abeysinghe- over their participation in today’s joint opposition rally at Hyde Park, which was attended by former Army Commander Sarath Fonseka.

UNP General Secretary Tissa Attanayake told the Daily Mirror that he had already submitted a report to the party leader on the three MPs and two Provincial Council members- Shiral Laktilake and Maithri Gunaratne who also participated in the joint opposition rally at Hyde Park this evening. Hon.Ranil Wickramasinghe, do you know anything other than taking disciplinary action against those who do the right thing in your party.

Big Ears Thursday, 18 October 2012 03:22 PM

This is nothing new to the UNP. Over 60 former UNP MP are with the government.

Ranils full time job is LOSING elections and then holding disciplinary inquires!!! Very soon there will be nothing left of the UNP.

Why is Ranil so naive? via DM Android App

Serves the agenda; you know who's.

Take disciplinary action against ranil for not winning a single election....and re-name your party to DNP (Divided National Party)

As long as one is a member of the party, must abide by the decision of the party, if not to be taken to task.

Noel Rajapakshe Friday, 19 October 2012 05:17 AM

It's the discipline. Party members have to follow the rules. If not, no matter who are they, disciplinary actions should be taken. UNP is a very well disciplined party from it's inception. .I have never seen other parties like this. It's the opposite in other parties (ex. Mervin Silva)....Discipline is what our country is lacking, and it's what we need to improve.

Ayio ranil mahtayo, oya me monwada karanne.

    Ajith Friday, 19 October 2012 06:29 AM

this is the right thing to do... UNP should have taken to task long time before on all who were against the party discipline....that ineffectiveness made every one to take advantage on their own and divide the party more...If they dont like the majority decision of the party, they should not stick to the party, can form their own...

Lanka Lion - Sydney Friday, 19 October 2012 11:35 AM

First of all why can't the UNP membership take action against this good for nothing opposition leader Ranil Wickramesinghe for letting down the party and country for openly supporting the government in every way.The UNP should take the blame for most of the problems facing the country today for not acting in the interest of the people of the country as a responsible main opposition party..It's hard to understand how Ranil has survived for so long as the leader of the UNP despite his poor record.as an inept politician.During his tenure he has not only done considerable damage to the UNP but also let down the people of this country.as the leader of the opposition.

peeda mossa Friday, 19 October 2012 01:23 PM

Strict discipline on the members, combined with apathy and inaction of the leader is a sure fire way to obliteration. Sorry to see the grand old party going " down the pallam".

    suwantha Saturday, 20 October 2012 08:27 AM

disciplinary action should be done to ranil .he is not a great leader.
