Courts suspends Lanka e News

The Pugoda Magistrate ordered to suspend the activities of Lanka e News website until court case against it is over. The Magistrate ordered the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (TRC) to suspend the operations of the website temporarily.
Court made this direction when the case against Lanka e news journalist Shantha Wijesooriya who was arrested by the Kirindiwala police on April 25, 2011 for allegedly committing contempt of court by publising a news item, was taken up this morning.
The Magistrate also ordered to further remand journalist Wijesooriya until next hearing on, May 12, 2011.
Meanwhile, spokesman for Lankaenews website said that an appeal will be filed in the Court of Appeal against the Magistrate's order.

The court is independent of the government. It is not the government that suspended the LEN. It was a case of contempt of court, and publishing lies and lies.
