Collision at sea

A fishing boat which reportedly bashed into a Sri Lankan Navy vessel 5 miles off the coast of Dehiwela last night sank after breaking into two. One of the two fishermen onboard at the time of the accident had gone missing while the other had swum ashore and lodged a police complaint regarding the incident. (AW)

If the second person didn't come back to land nobody would know the incident. It is responsibility of the navy to inform the incident to relevant authorities.

That is really something to be concerned about if a navy vessel that is supposed to be defending our shores were unable to detect and avoid a slow moving fishing boat. Are they getting complacent because the war ended?

I think it's too early to speculate! Hopefully a proper investigation into the incident will be done to find out what exactly happened.
I have heard of stories of Navy boats speeding past fishing vessels to intimidate them. So you can't rule out the possibility of Navy messing it up here. Firstly, how come the navy vessel did not see the fishing boat on its radar and perhaps avoided the collision? Secondly, did the surviving fisherman really swim the 5 miles to shore? Of course fishermen are supposed to be expert swimmers,but....

There goes the fisherman's livelihood. A breath test on the sailors would have helped, but now its too late.
