The smashing of coconut at places of worship creates a 5% shortage in supply eventually leading to a price hike of coconut products in the market, Pettah traders said today. ( KB)

    Smashing coconuts have nothing to do with any religion, they are superstitious practices by the gullible and foolish. In which religious or holy book do they say to smash coconuts? None.

    smashing of coconut has been a practice in kovils for donkeys years? but those do this for cursing must have irritated the gods, causing this shortage!
