The Police Crime Investigation Division (CID) had deployed a special police team to investigate the rape and killing of an 18-year-old girl at Punguditivu in Jaffna, Police Spokesman ASP Ruwan Gunasekara said.
Meanwhile Police Chief N.K. Illangakoon also visited Jaffna to personally supervise the investigations into the incident, ASP Gunasekara said.
It seems that this trend has come from India as a lot of rape has occurred there in the past few weeks.

Still cannot understand why the law makers has not taken any measures to amend the laws enabling rapists be given the capital punishment or at least life imprisonment. Ultimately the victim has to live in mental agony and torture while the culprits enjoy their life. At least those who rape under aged girls should severely punished.
