The Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) today asserted that the caretaker government which will be created in the event General Sarath Fonseka comes to power at the next Presidential election will not have any executive positions.
JVP MP Vijitha Herath, speaking to Daily Mirror online, said that that the caretaker government will only consist of the newly elected President and a number of Ministers and will not field any executive positions and.
The JVP MP said that the caretaker government would take over from the current regime for a short period and will be in place until the next general election after which a new parliament would be elected and a new government comes into power.
The JVP and UNP have put forward General Fonseka as their common Presidential candidate and a weekend newspaper quoted UNP leader Ranil Wickramasingha as saying he hopes to be an executive Prime Minister if his party wins the next General Election. (DM Online)
