Car catches fire on highway

A car driving along the Southern expressway from Pinnaduwa towards Kottawa had caught fire last night, the Police said.

The accident had occurred yesterday in the vicinity of the Dodamgoda Police zone, between the 29.7 and 29.8 km posts. Although measures had been taken to subdue the fire by the Galanigama Police post officials and the Special Task Force fire brigade, the car had been completely destroyed. However, there are no reports of casualties.

The reason behind the fire has not been identified yet and the Galanigama Police post officials are carrying out further investigations. (LP)

    The reasons could be electrical short circuiting, driving at a speed that the engine was heating up (or no coolant), the impact of the accident causing spillage of fuel and fire.
    May be something else
