Clearing 50 acres would have taken a few weeks. What were the forestry officials, the police, and the host of other departments whose jurisdictions would have covered activities in the national park, doing all that time? Did the situation slip through some key individuals well-oiled palms? Is there some higher power who has the integrity to get to the bottom of this?

Sri Lankan Tuesday, 19 October 2010 06:56 AM
WHY is our Environment Authority so weak in looking after our cultural sites - Easy fleeing of corrupt individuals is a NORM. Why not use helicopter guidance to facilitate the arrest instead of using the copters to transport corrupt officials.
If this is not stopped - we will end up with deserts very soon...

Small incidents such as this happen on a daily basis around the world. It's just 50 acres in this incident, but imagine how much it would be around the world in a year? Our future generations are going to suffer very badly. They might not even get the chance to a see just "one" tree. Who knows!
