The Sri Lankan Embassy in London has been directed to request the British Government to provide security to the Sri Lankan Cricketers and Sri Lankans in Britain in the wake of reports of coordinated attacks on them, the Ministry of External Affairs said today.

Ministry Secretary Karunaratne Amunugama said the ministry had instructed the embassy to take necessary measures on a diplomatic level to ensure the safety of Sri Lankans residing in Britain.

Chief Government Whip Dinesh Gunwardena told parliament on Thursday that certain groups were hired to threaten the players and their Lankan supporters. (Hafeel Farisz)

Rules do not apply to governing politicians and police in SL, they can kill at will.

    Diluk Saturday, 22 June 2013 04:16 AM

How these terrorists can show the LTTE flags and playcards since the LTTE is a banned terrorist group in the UK? This is called double standard UK policy!

    Lakputhra Saturday, 22 June 2013 09:41 AM

Now UK can understand why SL army is still in the north and east. If they cannot protect their own cricket grounds, from terror groups, what advice can they give us?

    Jane Saturday, 22 June 2013 04:17 AM

They are all LTTE. There is a Street/Area of LTTE in UK.. I dont know what wront with these people. Tamil, Tamil,, If they love Tamil more then thair religion they can live in Tamil NADU not in Peaceful SriLanka (Sinhala+Tamil+English= Srilanka).

    Rohan Sunday, 23 June 2013 07:40 AM

I counted the "Thumbs Downs" against each comment and the total is less than 200. And these terrorists live in the UK hence no threat to us. Even if they come down to cause trouble just 2 Army officers can finish them off.

    lanka Saturday, 22 June 2013 07:32 PM

well done supporters this is the way to beat the LTTE lmao saw how they got beaten at the oval

    CHOGM Friday, 21 June 2013 10:59 PM

The damage is alreday done and the president should personally write to Cameron for an explanation. When you llok at the pictures its shocking tamil tiger supporters were freely in the centre just next to players and security was no where near.

Raymond Punchisingho Friday, 21 June 2013 11:07 PM

Is this bad journalism or an intentional suppression of facts? What are the specific incidents that prompted this request?

The truth is more sacred than any religion, neither should it be compromised by patriotism.

    Gobi Friday, 21 June 2013 11:17 PM

Now you can't put blame on LTTE

say something Saturday, 22 June 2013 12:18 AM

And in reply the British Government has asked the Sri Lanka Government to provide security to the minorities from extremist organizations like the Bodu Bala Sena, Sinhala Ravaya and Ravana Balaya.

sidath wijeratne Saturday, 22 June 2013 12:26 AM

why Tangalla politician who killed a British tourist not brought to justice yet

Jagath Leanage Saturday, 22 June 2013 12:30 AM

British Security personal should be responsible for this unruly incident. If they cant control people jumping to the ground authorities must erect a fence similar to RPS. This stupid LTTE'ers always do mistakes. According to the placard that idiot holding, a massacred done by unknown person to us (Rajapaska). Readers, please study the spellings. So at this juncture we don't have to worry and LTTE followers always do mistake similar to Prabakaran
