Isn't it kind of important for us to have these even though it's illegal if we really look in to developing tourism ?? Take some of the more conservative countries as Indonesia, Malaysia and Dubai - even they do have it because it is important for tourism. May be we need to look at a mechanism of limiting it to areas of tourism etc. to ensure that our people don't go overboard with it. This also helps reduce rape and unrest - SL has a high Rape % compared to other conservative countries noh ??

SL has become a center for foreign prostitutes. What's the police doing about this?

    Tuesday, 15 June 2010 08:39 PM

Who is the owner? I am sure that he must be one wearing a national dress ... hik! .. hik!

    Tuesday, 15 June 2010 07:34 AM

the owner probably failed to pay his monthly bribe....

    Tuesday, 15 June 2010 07:34 AM

It feels really good to read the above comments from all people. Almost all have the same kind of thoughts and sympathy for these poor women.
Certainly is the last resort for those women. For some No Choice, some are forced to, compelled to. Changing this small country or our society is not a big deal at all, but we dont have a LEADER to do so.

    Tuesday, 15 June 2010 07:34 AM

They should go after the the big guys and take them to the custody.

    Tuesday, 15 June 2010 07:27 AM

We also waiting to hear a news from police media, that the “police raided a brothel located in Colombo city” .........

    Tuesday, 15 June 2010 07:23 AM

They have arrested only females then where are the males? Females are doing prostitution without a male, what a joke police has to arrest both parties

    Tuesday, 15 June 2010 07:16 AM

WHY GO BEHIND THESE POOR LADIES WHO DO THIS FOR A LIVING. WHY DONT WE RAID THE HOMES OF THE ROGUE POLITICIANS AND SEE WHAT WRONGS THEY HAVE BEEN COMMITING.

    Tuesday, 15 June 2010 07:09 AM

    Hurah! Police heros...

    Tuesday, 15 June 2010 06:30 AM

Most of these women are mislead into this profession or go into it out of sheer desperation. How about arresting the pimps?? ....or do they have 'connections' with higher powers?!

    Tuesday, 15 June 2010 06:00 AM

why not make it leagl like Holland. If you make something illigal some how they manage to carry it out illigally by selling drugs and it is a danger for the punters and the innocent women,

If they make it legal like Europe Govt will get a revenue and its safe for the women in that trade.
presently there are plenty of brothels under the name massage palours.

    Tuesday, 15 June 2010 04:42 AM

This establishment will probably be back in business in a couple of weeks.....the cops who were getting kickbacks cannot do without this extra income.

    Tuesday, 15 June 2010 05:46 AM

Is it bad only for local women to engage in prostitution, how about the expensive foreign prostitutes patronised by the local politicians and their offsprings. Obviously, those luxury brothels are not raided by Police.

    Tuesday, 15 June 2010 05:20 AM

Totally agree with Caeser, instead of sending these women to prison, lets rehabilitate them and find out the reason why they wanted to do this in the first place, there are so many ways the government can create jobs for these vulnerable women.

    Tuesday, 15 June 2010 05:18 AM

Have they forgotten to pay the month subscription to the police and the politicians ?

    Tuesday, 15 June 2010 05:14 AM

Learn to appriceate what they are doing. It's better then not doing anything. We have to start from somewhere.

    Tuesday, 15 June 2010 05:10 AM

Why punish these poor women who try to feed their children. Punish the system that put them into this status. I dont think anyone wants to be a prostitute by her choice. It is probably the last resort. When the police dont get the commission, they raid the brothel. This is not justice.

    Tuesday, 15 June 2010 05:04 AM

City of Negombo is with many Brothels,
Locals and Chinese are into this business big time.
Negombo Police have shown a blind eye.
    Keppa,

    Tuesday, 15 June 2010 04:56 AM

Police arrest only the women engaged in this business? Why are no arrests made on those conducting the business?

    Tuesday, 15 June 2010 04:52 AM

    who is behind that ?

    Tuesday, 15 June 2010 04:52 AM

now we lose chances of having relaxation

    Tuesday, 15 June 2010 04:49 AM

Its no point arresting innocent women the victims of this mafia who drag them to the worlds oldest profession. Due to unemployment and need of much hard money, women fall prey in to the hands of mafias who operates this lucrative business. The owners and runners of such spots are well organized, and often conneted from high officials to powerful politicians, and they too are using these services free of charge for keeping mum on it. Thats the hard truth. Arresting women, charging them, fining them, then they are back to the same. What a joke ?

    Tuesday, 15 June 2010 04:48 AM

Hear, hear! But are brothels, courting couples, hooch dens, 'price less' boutiques, indecent hoardings enough? What about murder, rape and other serious crime?
