Blake, MR discuss ties

US Assistant Secretary of State for South Asia and Central Asian affairs, Robert Blake met President Mahinda Rajapaksa at the President’s House this morning and examined ways and means of further strengthening bilateral relations, the President’s office said.

Minister of External Affairs Prof G L Peiris, Secretary to the President, Lalith Weerathunga and Treasury Secretary Dr P B Jayasundara also took part in the discussions.

The two sides examined ways and means of further strengthening bilateral relations between Sri Lanka and the United States and identified several areas for the expansion of bilateral cooperation. The US Assistant Secretary offered to increase training facilities for Sri Lankan officials and others in the United States, the President’s office added.

The US is a very humane nation - it will never engage in relatiatory politics and pull out aid to Sri Lanka - in spite of all the criticisms and mayhem levelled at them.

A military base in Trinco will be the best way to strengthen the bilateral relationship. It is beneficial to both USA and Sri Lanka. It may not be good for others, so be it.
