Landslide victory for BJP

16 May 2014 06:41 am - 73     - {{hitsCtrl.values.hits}}

A A A

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) led National Democratic Alliance headed for a landslide victory at the Indian General Elections.

Meanwhile Jayalalithaa Jeyaram’s ADMK Party won the elections in Tamil Nadu but the BJP may not need ADMK assistance because of its clear majority.

Narendra Modi, the controversial Hindu nationalist leader, is expected to be declared India’s new prime minister later today after the ruling Congress Party conceded defeat and his Bharatiya Janata Party headed for a clear majority.

As early official indications of results emerged from the largest election in history, Mr. Modi’s BJP was leading in India’s 543 constituencies, while the Congress Party appeared to have been routed with its leader Rahul Gandhi at risk of losing his seat.

The scale of its victory in states like Uttar Pradesh, where the BJP presence has been weak for more than a decade, the party is leading in 56 constituencies, while Congress was heading for just three seats from India’s largest state.

Regional parties in the state, which the Congress had hoped might back a “Third Front” coalition to keep Mr. Modi from power, were leading in only 15 seats. (The Telegraph)

    Do not kid yourselves. Modi is NOT a friend of SL. In fact he is far more dangerous. There was a reason why he was banned from the US (that'll off-course change now). Modi will be nice to SL if and only if, SL satisfies Indian interests. Plain and simple.
