The Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL) has unanimously adopted two resolutions condemning the interference in the Judiciary, the BASL President Wijedasa Rajapaksha said today.

He said the Bar Council at a meeting on Saturday unanimously passed a resolution condemning the interference in the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) and in the judiciary by the executive.

Meanwhile BASL Secretary Sanjaya Gamage told Daily Mirror that as a first step the BASL would meet the Chief Justice and discuss this matter.

Mr. Rajapaksha the resolution had also expressed solidarity with the all judges in the country for their commitment towards upholding the independence of the judiciary.

In another resolution, the BASL has been directed to appoint a panel of senior lawyers including the Presidents Counsel to look into the possibility of taking legal action against two state media institutions. (Lakmal Sooriyagoda)

Time to shut the foul mouth in the state media. It is a disgrace, could be acceptable to a Banana Republic.

A timely move, indeed, by the BASL before complete anarchy sets in the country with lawlessness by the ruling party politicians spreading to all spheres of life. It is high time the uneducated politicians are kept in their place.

People need fairness and the law should be equal to all citizens alike. The judiciary shouldn't be biased and should follow the book of law to the letter even if the case involves someone with high connections. Well done, it's a timely move!!
