The military is investigating claims that a young girl in Batticaloa was “abused” by troops recently and the suspects will be put before an identification parade this week, Military spokesman Major General Prasad Samarasinghe told Daily Mirror online.

He added that a mother had complained to the police that her 8 year old daughter had allegedly been abused by army personnel.  The police are conducting investigations and the army is also doing its investigations into these claims and if the claims are proved true the Army will take severe action against the culprits, he said.

Major General Samarasinghe added that the army was assisting the police in the investigations.

Excuse the culprits in the name of 'patriotism,' 'sovereignty' etc. ...

    Thursday, 25 February 2010 08:31 PM

    Castrate the culprit!

It's not the ARMY, but its 'BEHAVIOR,' which is a 'reflection of our country.'

    Tuesday, 23 February 2010 11:16 PM

They might try to pin this too, on the poor General.

    Tuesday, 23 February 2010 09:44 PM

Have these 'uniformed men' forgotten, that they too have mothers, sisters, nieces, etc.?

    Tuesday, 23 February 2010 09:17 PM

All should remember that the Army is a reflection of our society.

    Tuesday, 23 February 2010 08:46 PM

So sad to read this story. However, the reality is that this regime is not at all interested in establishing law and order, in this country. From top to bottom it is corrupt. When the so called leaders do not practice law and order how could we expect the Army, Police or any other segment, to do so?

    Tuesday, 23 February 2010 08:03 PM

This will be forgotten, by next week ... Injustice prevails unhindered!

    Tuesday, 23 February 2010 06:55 PM

These are the people who should be tried by a military court!

    Tuesday, 23 February 2010 02:17 PM

These mental disorders could be eradicated by hanging the culprits in public.

Please protect the victim's family, otherwise they will get death threats to misidentify the culprits.

Sure, the war is over and the army has no discipline now as SF is no more.

    Tuesday, 23 February 2010 04:05 PM

This is a clear example of breakdown in the Law & Order in the Forces. It so happen when the Top Ranks are not disciplined, naturally there is a Breakdown in the lower ranks too.

    SF ESCAPED ANOTHER POSSIBLE CHARGE!!!!!!!!

    Tuesday, 23 February 2010 03:44 PM

Has any investigation produced convincing results? All talks no real action.

    Tuesday, 23 February 2010 03:37 PM

My god..this habit was not there in our army before

    Tuesday, 23 February 2010 03:35 PM

if ever found some one guilty, This will be a first in Sri Lankan Military history.
Do we have faith in that happening ? not in a million years

    Tuesday, 23 February 2010 03:21 PM

    Must be severely punished

    Tuesday, 23 February 2010 03:20 PM

Abduct the culprits, detain them in solitary confinement and hve them Court Martialled. That's the law of the country, isnt it?

    Tuesday, 23 February 2010 03:10 PM

Under MR everything is allowed, army has the power....so sorry for the little girl.

    Tuesday, 23 February 2010 02:28 PM

We know the results of the investigation. No one will be found answerable. This is Srilanka. Abusing young girls by the army is the norm so why all this fuss???
