Anticipatory bail for Devananda

Secretary General of the Ealam people Democratic Party (EPDP) and the Minister of Traditional Industries, Douglas Devananda has taken steps to apply for anticipatory bail in the additional session’s court of India this week.

Minister Douglas Devananda told the Daily Mirror today that he has prepared all the documents and he will forward the application on Tuesday or Wednesday through his lawyer in Madras.

The Madras High Court on Wednesday 8th December 2010 said that the trial court has not pronounced Minister Douglas Devananda a proclaimed offender in case of 1986 relating to murder and said he has a liberty to approach it seeking anticipatory bail.

The High Court Judge Justice G.M.Akbar Ali also directed him to approach the trial court to recall the non-bailable warrant pending against him by showing sufficient cause for his non appearance.

“I am not a guilty in this case. But, few politicians and media institutions are trying to exaggerate and trying to pt blame on me” EPDP Secretary General further said.

Minister Douglas Devananda also said that he returned home from India according to the advice of lawyer Mr.Vaanamamalai in Chennai, after the Indo-Sri Lanka Accord which was signed by the both countries on 27th July 1987. (B.M.Murshideen)
