Police said that another woman who had taken medicine for beautification from the Beauty Parlour in Bambalapitiya was admitted to a hospital in London after having become ill.

She had complained to the Police by fax on Saturday (23) against the doctor.

According to the Police, this wealthy female had taken medicine for beautification about two months ago and was admitted to a hospital in London without seeking admission hospitals in Sri Lanka. She had complained to the Police after publicity was given in the media about the recent incident, in which a Lady Ridgeway hospital doctor had died after taking such medical treatment.

The Police said that they had conducted investigations after her complaint.

In addition to this complaint, the Police had received information about another incident, in which an 11-year-old girl was treated for leucoderma and her condition turned worse. It was mentioned in the complaint that the girl’s parents had spent nearly Rs. 200,000. Police said that people should bring to their attention about these types of incidents.

According to the Police, the alleged beauty therapist Nimal Gamage had obtained permission from the Health Ministry to conduct a medical centre but he was not granted permission for performing surgery. It was reported that nearly 12,000 ladies had so far undergone treatment at his clinic and the Laptop computer which was used by him was sent to the Moratuwa University for identification of the patients who had sought treatment from him.

The suspect is to be produced before the court today (25).

A team of Police officers are conducting investigations under the direction of Colombo Crime Division Director, SP Rohan Silva and his deputies, ASPs Nuwan Wedasinghe and L.N. Jayaratna.(Indika Ramanayaka)

First of all ban all these ads that promote waste of money fairness creams. Stop conducting beauty shows on TV where beauticians today are becoming dermatologists and people blindly following their advise. Such treatments in the long run turn out be adverse and sometimes the damage cannot be undone. I would rather be dark skinned and live longer than become fair skinned and die quicker.

You write your judgemental, cynical news report just so and you wonder why the latest victim would seek treatment in London and inform the police only via fax? The reporter is no better than the half baked commentators at this link.

I think GMOA is an association of the doctors in the government sector. This doctor / beautician was totally in private sector. GMOA was agitating for a registry of consultants so that the patients could identify the specialists. Here was a doctor who had gone beyond his limits. People should not act like babies. They too must make inquiries before they allow some one to interfere with their bodies. Would you not be careful when you are buying a car or an electrical equipment? you should be extra careful when your health is at stake!

Fortunately, nothing has happened to our star politicians who have made use of beauticians to gel their hair, trim their beards and what not, to project a youthful look to the gullible citizens. Hopefully, their names can also be found in the laptop records of the doctor.

Our ladies have no need to become as an actress. Natural is better than artificial. Naturally our ladies are beauties. They must know their good appearance.

First of all GMOA must be taken to task for allowing black sheep to mint money in the private sector, without engaging in filth & fights in govt hospitals with no shame in front of poor patients. After all this is the country always boasting about free economy before even india so why blame govt, curse the owner & the patients who have no shame. Sri Lanka needs an independent medical regulator to control private doctor mafia fleecing patients to make them billionaires & make hospital shops even richer with no control of their costs or regard for the poor pateints
