American tourist insulted

An American woman on a visit to Sri Lanka has in a complaint to the Colpetty police alleged that a Sri Lankan youth had spat on her, used criminal force and had insulted her while at a leading shopping mall in Colpetty.

She said she was a student and in the country as a tourist and alleged that the youth might have been about 25 years of age.

The police told Colombo Fort Magistrate Lanka Jayaratne that they had identified the suspect through the use of CCTV cameras. She directed the police to investigate the matter and report to court on July 28. (Lakmal Sooriyagoda)
