The allowances paid to members of all local government bodies including Pradeshiya Sabhas and Urban Councils will be increased, Local Government and Provincial Councils Minister A.L.M. Athaullah informed parliament today.
Accordingly, the allowance of Pradeshiya Sabha members would be increased from Rs. 5000 to Rs. 15,000 and the allowance paid to a Vice Chairman would be increased from Rs 6500 to Rs. 20, 000. A Chairman’s allowance would be increased from Rs. 10, 000 to Rs. 25, 000.
The allowance paid to urban councilors would be increased from Rs. 7000 to Rs. 20, 000 and the allowance paid to a UC Vice Chairman would be increased from Rs. 10, 000 to Rs. 25, 000 while the allowance of a chairman would be increased from Rs. 15,000 to Rs. 30,000.
