The Attorney General today made an undertaking in Supreme Court to suspend the forced registration of residents in North by the military.

A group of TNA Parliamentarians earlier filed a fundamental rights violation petition seeking to stop what they called ‘forced registration’ of residents of Jaffna and Kilinochchi districts allegedly by the Security Forces.

Jaffna district Parliamentarians Mavai Senathirajah, Suresh Premachandran, Appathurai Vinayagamoorthy, ivagnanam Shritharan and Eswarapatham Saravanapavan filed their petition through Attorney Mohan Balendra.

They cited Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, Jaffna Security Forces Commander Mahinda Hathurusinghe, Army Spokesman Udaya Madawala, Jaffna Government Agent Ms Imelda Sukumar and the Attorney General as Respondents. (SSS)

spark, for the national welfare, it is urgent to realize that the minorities do think, and think about something other than the race problem rather than being stagnated in the issue for ever.

    viraj Thursday, 03 March 2011 02:01 PM

My friend, what about the wrong doing of the Sinhalese or have conveniently, like the average Sri Lankan, forgotten the atrocities committed on the Tamils beginning with the Galle Face satyagraha? And the denial of their legitimate rights of equality?

    zorro Thursday, 03 March 2011 10:11 AM

you mean like the srilankan majority and the govt. get angry at any mentioning of an "int. inquiry on war crimes". We are the nation full of deniers and blinds!

    cracko Thursday, 03 March 2011 10:17 AM

Malkanthi, you are amazing. That is why they are called Terrorists!

    malkanthi Thursday, 03 March 2011 09:53 AM

But then I don't understand why terrorists were not concern about innocent civilians before they blew up and the rest of the community rejoiced at such tragedy!!

    Dheen Thursday, 03 March 2011 09:51 AM

It is crystal clear that the North-East is now governed by India.

    zorro Thursday, 03 March 2011 09:49 AM

registration is not bad, it helps a lot in civil administration and things like tax. But registering only the Tamils is not right. If registering then everyone.

    Victoria Thursday, 03 March 2011 09:40 AM

    Victoria Thursday, 03 March 2011 09:30 AM

local boy Thursday, 03 March 2011 08:03 AM

    good point

    ind Thursday, 03 March 2011 07:59 AM

Not only Tamils we too asked to register. Nothing new too. But tamils take everything even if any information is asked as "forced".( As if they have something to hide)

    cracko Thursday, 03 March 2011 07:58 AM

David, you are amazing! You are forgetting why some Tamils rebelled. You therefore want all Tamils to pay for it.

    ind Thursday, 03 March 2011 07:58 AM

What is the relevant on this ??.

Konde bendapu china Thursday, 03 March 2011 07:48 AM

Registration is very vital for Security reasons ,what they called ‘forced registration’ is exaggeration

    spark Thursday, 03 March 2011 07:53 AM

This is nothing but state harrassment of the tamils. This is done with the knowledge and blessings of the highest in power. What a shame.

    Darwin Thursday, 03 March 2011 07:46 AM

    This is the Miracle country!

    Analyst Thursday, 03 March 2011 07:42 AM

Suspension only till the end of UNHRC session in March.

    David Thursday, 03 March 2011 07:36 AM

Tamils won't have to face any of these circumstances if they had lived peacefully in this country, two cultures don't have much of a different compared with Muslims, unfortunately now they paying for their wrong doings....
