The All Ceylon Jamiyyathul Ulama (ACJU) today proposed that the Government should issue halal certification under mechanism that is acceptable to all stakeholders.

Addressing a news conference in Colombo, the ACJU said the Government could model the process in line with what was presently being adopted by the Thailand and Singapore Governments. (H.F)

    gonga Tuesday, 26 February 2013 04:42 PM

Why ACJU asking to charge all expenses from business party? ACJU must pay all expenses to the government. Because of they ask halal service. Every one has to pay if they seek for a particular service.

    zeylanicus Tuesday, 26 February 2013 04:35 PM

If you don't want halal products, don't buy them. Buy non-halal products instead.

If the producers/manufacturers don't give non-halal products, ask them to do so.

Justice seeker Tuesday, 26 February 2013 04:36 PM

    Mangala,
Grow up. Get out of your narrow box. Think broad like the Buddhist of Thailand do. Think economics like the Thais do. With such narrow minded people like you this country will be always in the economic doldrums and will go down to hell. If that is what you and your ilk are dragging this country to, God save the nation.

    Corera Tuesday, 26 February 2013 04:31 PM

I think the ACJU is avoiding another bloody war in this country, which i salute.

In Sri Lanka we have Public Heath Inspectors who inspect the quality of food that is served to the public. This do not need any other mechanism to check the quality. If All Ceylon Jamiyyathul Ulama want special food for their people, they can run special shops.

    pr Wednesday, 27 February 2013 08:28 AM

PHI with a botl all food will be quality.

It is felt you are a new born, as you don't know, please read or ask from learned about the olden days, culture and how were eating. Let the govnmnt add this also as more important thing.

    sham Wednesday, 27 February 2013 06:24 AM

why our people are fighting for Halal certificate???
it is simple, muslims will use the things with the halal certificate...
others can use the things which are without ceritificate...

frank hilary Tuesday, 26 February 2013 02:47 PM

Good move by ACJU. Since halal is a requirement by muslims and cannot be done away with, Govt. should step in and provide the facility to those concerned.

    Minisath Tuesday, 26 February 2013 02:46 PM

Would this serve the purpose? The government is anyway notorious with corrupted politicos and officials. Nobody would trust the process. It is a great injustice to the Halal users.
What does the BBS achieve by this? May be fulfilling its envy thoughts, and of course producing and developing hatred.

    Andy Tuesday, 26 February 2013 02:41 PM

    good move.

    HK Tuesday, 26 February 2013 02:20 PM

One more ministry post vacant ! Who's the lucky guy...

    Z Tuesday, 26 February 2013 02:14 PM

You nailed it ACJU!! Let's see the true colours of the GOSL now!!

    Fusion Tuesday, 26 February 2013 02:08 PM

Yup, this would be the right thing. Thailand is a Theravada country and Singapore is predominately Mahayana. So why not SLS have a halal certification? SLS should also have certifications for Vegetarian, Vegan, Non-alcoholic foods as well as health foods with less fat & sugar.

    Mangala Tuesday, 26 February 2013 02:04 PM

We have SLS. THAT IS ENOUGH. I think people are sick of hearing this halal case. It is very clear we are not asking halal. And do not try to impose it on us. Keep your halal with you or anywhere you want, BUT NOT IN SRILANKA.

    Gafa Tuesday, 26 February 2013 01:59 PM

Who will sign the certificate? Mervin and Mithripala
