The whole Yahapalana Government including myself should take collective responsibility, over the coordinated terror attacks that occurred on April 21, 2019, Easter Sunday, former Defence Secretary Hemasiri Fernando informed the PCoI probing Easter Sunday attacks yesterday.

Former Defence Secretary made this statement while responding to a question posed by the representative from the Attorney General's (AG) Department.

“There was no prior warning regarding the presence of suicide bombers in the National Thowheed Jamaath. Before receiving foreign intelligence, Zahran was identified as an extremist preacher and not as a terrorist.”

Fernando also claimed that events leading to the bombings appeared to have been developed over a long period and it was not a sudden incident.

He also added that intelligence reports shared by the State Intelligence Service (SIS) had not referred to a possible threat to the National Security by Zahran and his associates. (Yoshitha Perera)

Zahran and some of his mob were named and arrested after the disfiguring of Buddha statues and finding of a cache of explosives and weapons. As such they were known as terrorists and not just extremist preachers. But the fact is that teh yahapaalu government was under teh thumb of muslim MPs and refused to arrest and imprison those terrorists. The government of Sirisena and Ranil was to be balmed at politcial level and muslim Mps for blackmailing the government and officials making them impotent. Those MPs must also be to be blamed

Lot of people helped intelligence to trace ISIS and tauheed jamath extremists, yes you certainly are responsible for shortcomings in the defense department. No excuse for any of you. because of you all Christian and Muslim communities relationship are tense. The tension was defused to a certain extent because of His Eminence Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith

You are a complete write off. A shame. Government servants must retire at 60. Must not give any responsible position after that age. This bugger is a classic example.

Muslim community in Sri Lanka had excellent relation with the Christian community and vise versa and the attack on a sacred day for them really shocked the entire Muslim community. All kinds of extremism in the country should be eradicated for our country to prosper.
