The Disaster Management Centre (DMC) has forecast heavy rains exceeding 100mm in some areas in the coming days. Heavy falls are expected in the Central and Uva Provinces and Batticaloa, Ampara and Polonnaruwa districts.
In addition, heavy showers and sudden roughness associated with a sudden increase of wind speed was forecast in the sea off the coast - extending from Pottuvil to Batticaloa.
“There may be temporary localised strong winds during thundershowers. General public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimise damages caused by lightning activity,” the forecast said.
The active cloudiness in the skies above Sri Lanka was the reason given for changes in the weather patterns. (Yohan Perera)
