Housing Construction Minister Sajith Premadasa said today his ministry would launch housing projects called Udagama to be named after past leaders of the country, be they dead or alive. He said one such Udagama would be named after former President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
He told a news conference 'Gam Udawa or the Village re-awakening programme' initiated by his father the late President R. Premadasa, would be re-launched by the middle of this year.
While addressing the media, he said that a newly constructed village called ‘Sanhindagama’ would be opened on next Sunday in Hambantota.
“The Sanhindagama village consists of thirty houses including all infrastructure facilities. We are hoping to build villages to be named after all former presidents and rulers of Sri Lanka,” the Minister said.
He said housing loan facilities would be introduced for the first time for state sector employees by the National Housing Development Authority(NHDA).
A decision was taken to give priority to the defence sector, he said. (Chaturanga Pradeep)

He is thinking as he is doing a big thing. This is nothing compared to what Mahinda did. Dont underestimate him naming villages to him.

Will they be worried about fallen heros when the living heroes are in custody?
Mervin Friday, 22 April 2016 02:09 PM
I think this Minister does not have any work to do.

Seems a good initiative, but the genuine needy should not be shut out or marginalized by overdoing the preference to certain privileged sections.

Looking forward to be a minister in MR's future government if it comes to power!

Does this mean he and his family is absolved from all suspected scandals. What about the Airport, Port that were named after his highness? Why not name it after the fallen heroes who paid the ultimate price.

Never name lanes, streets, roads, villages or whatever after corrupt politicians, that will certainly set a very bad example for the future generations.

Would he ever erect even a tombstone in your name? He is the man who removed the name of Mr.Ananda Kumaraswamy and renamed the road as nelumpokuna mw. He is the man who spent millions of poor peoples money to construct a mausoleum in Madamulana in the name of Rajapakses.he has branded enough places in his name spending people's money.

There is no point in naming them under formerpresidents cos the country has only gone behindand not forward.

Nothing wrong in naming the villages "In Memory Of .....", including your father. Not only the Kings and State Rulers, but gallant fighters who gave their Tomorrow for our Today.
