The issues faced by government officials because of the suspension of vehicle permits will be resolved within the next three months, State Minister Eran Wickramaratne said today.
He told parliament that the issuance of vehicle permits were suspended as a practical measure to protect our foreign reserves.
Responding to a question asked by JVP Leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake last week, the Minister said about 400 officials had already opened letters of credits and were inconvenienced because of the suspension and added that issues faced by all the officials would be resolved soon. Quickly address this issue, car sales are suffering by flooding the market with small engine hybrids. We need some big cars in the market. And who is worried about 'officials' ? They never even get to see the cars for which they open LC for!

Why don't we have a referendum on this permit issue and let the people decide?

Pigs in a sty, my simple and logical definition government kings, not not servants.

Implement the original conditions i.e. limit on c.i.f. value, cannot sell for five years and cannot use government vehicle for five years. Under these conditions allow all those who are entitled to import vehicles.

In our political language very soon is 3 months. How pathetic we are!How the country going to come up?

If the govt. is sensible , It should stop issuing permits for officials completely. If any body should be requiring transport, could be arranged from govt. vehicles.

Legally there is only 2 chances in lifetime that any officer is allowed to have permits. But some have sold their permits for hundreds of millions and try their best to obtain 3rd or 4th permit as well.

Vehicle permits should be given ONLY ONCE to any Govt.servant in their service period. Many of them are making a fortune on selling permits and depriving the Govt. of tax revenues. How can Sri Lanka increase tax revenue??

Stop Vehicle permits for MP’s first then decide on others

I cant understand why the people who say to stop permits for state executive officers do not say a word regarding the permit of political people.. These political people within their 5 years period earn that will enough for their life time. They get the permit as well which is several times higher in value than the Gov servants.
