The vaccination rollout is to commence in 12 more districts with Sinopharm jabs, Army Commander Shavendra Silva said.
Accordingly, vaccination will kick off in Matale, Nuwara-Eliya, Kegalle, Trincomalee, Hambantota, Badulla, Anuradhapura, Puttalam, Ampara, Batticaloa, Monaragala and Polonnaruwa Districts in near future.
One million doses of Sinopharm vaccines were brought to Sri Lanka on Sunday to continue with the vaccination programmes in these districts and another One million doses of Sinopharm vaccines will be brought to Sri Lanka on June 9, the Army chief said.
He said the President also instructed to give priority to vaccinate the senior citizens over 60 years of age, government employees who are at the forefront of the Covid eradication programme, apparel factory workers and expectant mothers who do not show any complications.
Gen. Silva said the current COVID situation in the country will be discussed with health experts and decided whether to extend the travel restrictions further in as per their recommendations.(DSB)
