Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa said a committee would be appointed to study the salary anomalies prevailing in the non-academic and academic staff of universities and recommend a streamlined mechanism to resolve them.
He said this when he met representatives of university trade unions at Temple Trees yesterday.
At the meeting, the Prime Minister instructed the Finance Ministry Secretary to set up a proper system to resolve the salary anomalies and it was decided to set up a committee for this purpose.
Higher Education Minister Bandula Gunawardana, Labour Minister Gamini Lokuge, State Minister Lasantha Alagiyawanna, Finance Ministry Secretary S.R. Attygalle, Professor Sampath Amarathunga and trade union representatives took part in the meeting.
