UNF to form new national Govt.: Rajitha

While stating that it will form a new national government, the United National Front (UNF) yesterday invited all parties to join it.

UNF seniors Rajitha Senaratne, Kabir Hashim and Patali Champika Ranwaka who revealed this to the media at Temple Trees yesterday said any party interested could join the new government.

“We will invite all parties to join but we will specially invite SLFP initially to join the party,” Dr Senaratne said.

Asked as to why they are trying to divide parties, Mr. Ranawaka said they don’t intend buying over MPs but making an honest request with the intention of pulling the country through from the present crisis. “What we intend doing is to pull the country through the present crisis,” he said.

Referring to the cross over for UNP MP Dunesh Gankanda, Mr. Hashim said a vast majority of MPs in the UNP are with the party and will stay on though few of them were bought over.

Asked whether they could form a government at a time Parliament is prorogued, Dr Senaratne said they are confident that the House could be convened by Friday. (Yohan Perera)

This anarchy situation is a result of lack of Transparency in economic and social activities of the RW's government. People responded to it in February 10th and is due to response in next election too. MS must have forced the UNP for an election rather changing heads.

Totally. At least MS should have floated the idea of a general election and requested 2/3 from the parties. Then when RW rejects it justifies his decision to sack him. Now a budget defeat may deliver an election, which is the most ideal for the country.

Only solution for this is to go before the people by conducting an parliamentary election. So people will decide who will be their leader instead head hunting in Parliament to show majority which is already lost in credibility (of MPs) and also in disarray.

UNP/UNF did not perform to the expectation of the masses. That has to be accepted. But that does not mean you can bring unconstitutional changes as done by MS. MR was chased out by the people. There will be several who will move to MR, as money talks. In SL there are no good politicians. MR and his team knows how to through money. Sorry forgot to mention is also the finance Minister. This is not necessary. We have already a govt in place under the PM Hon Mahinda Rajapaksha. Worst scenario will take place is, in case the govt of MR couldn't perform, president have to desolve the parliment and call for a fresh election. That is highly doubtful.

Mahinda ,Maiththiri and Ranil should be sent out as they are too old to think positively and allow some younger leaders like Sajith to take over. The public service retirement age is limited to 55 years .whilst, these politicians have no age limit and stay on until their death enjoying all benefits and bribes. In western democracies people will never vote for any body to remain in power for more than 10 years.
