UNF to form new national Govt.: Rajitha

31 October 2018 07:20 am - 50     - {{hitsCtrl.values.hits}}

While stating that it will form a new national government, the United National Front (UNF) yesterday invited all parties to join it.

UNF seniors Rajitha Senaratne, Kabir Hashim and Patali Champika Ranwaka who revealed this to the media at Temple Trees yesterday said any party interested could join the new government.

“We will invite all parties to join but we will specially invite SLFP initially to join the party,” Dr Senaratne said.

Asked as to why they are trying to divide parties, Mr. Ranawaka said they don’t intend buying over MPs but making an honest request with the intention of pulling the country through from the present crisis. “What we intend doing is to pull the country through the present crisis,” he said.

Referring to the cross over for UNP MP Dunesh Gankanda, Mr. Hashim said a vast majority of MPs in the UNP are with the party and will stay on though few of them were bought over.

Asked whether they could form a government at a time Parliament is prorogued, Dr Senaratne said they are confident that the House could be convened by Friday. (Yohan Perera)

This anarchy situation is a result of lack of Transparency in economic and social activities of the RW's government. People responded to it in February 10th and is due to response in next election too. MS must have forced the UNP for an election rather changing heads.

    asp Wednesday, 31 October 2018 10:46 AM

Oh look!! MR has some English speaking stooges now.

Akila Weerakoon Wednesday, 31 October 2018 01:49 PM

Your colonial mindset compels you to think that English fluency is an exclusive achievement. Japan, South Korea or Taiwan as nations never count on English fluency to achieve their remarkable developmental status

    Machan Wednesday, 31 October 2018 02:07 PM

@Asp, speaking English only is not the right qualification to run a country. We saw it for few years now. You need brains balls and decision making more than English.

    Nadaal Wednesday, 31 October 2018 04:18 PM

Dear Missaka, I understand MS tried his best for elections and also to RW to act collectively. RE’s dictatorial attitude and his stubbornness in unilateral actions in rgd to the actions he took along with the few members of his clique and not caring much for the rest has brought both UNP and the economy to this pathetic situation. He must resign from UNP as well

    Nuwan Thursday, 01 November 2018 04:45 AM

Totally. At least MS should have floated the idea of a general election and requested 2/3 from the parties. Then when RW rejects it justifies his decision to sack him. Now a budget defeat may deliver an election, which is the most ideal for the country.

Here we go again a "kalu sudda". OMG Chinese President does not speak in English even at international summits...

    Dallas Wednesday, 31 October 2018 07:33 AM

Just go home, find a proper leader for your party and then try to get at least 30% in next elections. Otherwise if Ranil as the Leader you will struggle to hit 25% as a single party

    Dilipa Wednesday, 31 October 2018 07:36 AM

God!! i am really over it, looking at these monkeys faces over and over again!!!

    Missaka Wednesday, 31 October 2018 07:37 AM

Only solution for this is to go before the people by conducting an parliamentary election. So people will decide who will be their leader instead head hunting in Parliament to show majority which is already lost in credibility (of MPs) and also in disarray.

    joshua Wednesday, 31 October 2018 07:55 AM

UNP/UNF did not perform to the expectation of the masses. That has to be accepted. But that does not mean you can bring unconstitutional changes as done by MS. MR was chased out by the people. There will be several who will move to MR, as money talks. In SL there are no good politicians. MR and his team knows how to through money. Sorry forgot to mention is also the finance Minister. Ha Haa

Yes this matter is not about RW or UNP getting power. President has kicked people's mandate and by not calling parliament Sri Lanka has become like a primitive African country with a dictator and lawlessness! Please convene the parliament!

Barring miracle there is no way you can regain the ownership of the government. Now it is not the constitution nor the rules of democracy that is the deciding factor .The Armed Forces and the Police have quickly shifted their alliance to the strongest guy in the Sri Lankan politics. You have to accept the reality and walk away.

    Ganesh Wednesday, 31 October 2018 05:51 PM

Why should they walk away as a coward like you. All of this because of Idiotic Pirabakaran who introduced Rajapakse clan so powerful

    RuwanL Wednesday, 31 October 2018 08:26 AM

Don't form national government as it will never work! The best option is to have fresh elections and let the people decide! People have indicated that they are not satisfied with a national government! Those who lose at the election should not come back through the back door!

Some of MR's most staunch supporters in the comments section are relatively less active. Nervous about being kicked out or guilt?

Only way forward is with Sajith as the leader and Naveen as his deputy? else you guys have no chance at all and we would never vote for UNP without the change.

Mahinda seems to have changed his road map after failing to muster majority in Parliement and working on another coup to put country to sudden Parliamentary electon. All forces for DEMOCRACY must immidietly rally together to face a Parliamentary election.

    Ralahamyan Thursday, 01 November 2018 05:22 AM

This is not the first time MR came t opoer through the back door. He knows how to make a mockery of Democracy.

What democracy, when you cancel elections?

    MFSL Wednesday, 31 October 2018 02:48 PM

It's Sirisena and Faizer Mustapha who are responsible for this not the UNP.

Martin Milton Wednesday, 31 October 2018 04:49 PM

This clearly shows that these rogues do not have an iota of respect or concern for their Motherland. Attempting to form yet ANOTHER GOSL is ample evidence of their level of National mindedness and intelligence as a whole. Both these aspects are non existent in these guys and the people must totally reject them so that they are completely and forever out of politics. MM

    Harini Wednesday, 31 October 2018 05:56 PM

You don't intend to buy ANY MORE MPs you mean. It didn't go so well for you did it? They defected no. You can't have very loyal party members in your fold. But keep at it, surely you still have all that Bond Scam stash to buy over a few at least. Maybe offer to pay in dollars, now that you've decimated our export economy. So Sri Lanka!

    Dperera Wednesday, 31 October 2018 06:44 PM

This is not necessary. We have already a govt in place under the PM Hon Mahinda Rajapaksha. Worst scenario will take place is, in case the govt of MR couldn't perform, president have to desolve the parliment and call for a fresh election. That is highly doubtful.

Mahinda ,Maiththiri and Ranil should be sent out as they are too old to think positively and allow some younger leaders like Sajith to take over. The public service retirement age is limited to 55 years .whilst, these politicians have no age limit and stay on until their death enjoying all benefits and bribes. In western democracies people will never vote for any body to remain in power for more than 10 years.

    Manu Thursday, 01 November 2018 09:44 AM

Hello Lanka, the younger leader and ministers will make only discotheque country with modern jaz and blues. We need experienced leaders, honest and sincere.
