Two pistols, two magazines and eight ammunition of 9mm belonging to Kelum Indika Sampath alias ‘Kawma’ -- who is currently detained in connection with the robbery of a diamond worth more than Rs.5 billion -- were recovered from a compound at Welikanda in Wattala today, Police Spokesman SP Ruwan Gunasekera said.
He said the firearms and ammunition had been buried in a land owned by Kirayadurage Kasun Dhananjaya alias ‘Wedikande Kasun’ who was recently arrested by the Mirihana Special Crimes Unit over the gem and diamond robbery at Pannipitiya.
SP Gunasekera said Kawma, under interrogation by officers at the Peliyagoda Divisional Crime Detection Bureau, provided information leading to the seizure of firearms and ammo.
Kawma was arrested on March 5 and detained for 7 days for questioning. (Darshana Sanjeewa)
