Development Strategies and International Trade Deputy Minister Nalin Bandara said today the purpose of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission was to find out the truth about the past conflicts and not to take legal action against anyone.
He said even though Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission established by former president Mahinda Rajapaksa in 2010 was empowered with authority to prosecute someone, intention of the good governance government was not to indict certain individuals but to reveal the truth for future reconciliation.
He said Truth and Reconciliation Commission played a key role in creating peace and reconciliation in South Africa where there were racial conflicts and added that proposed Truth and Reconciliation Commission in Sri Lanka would be a strong foundation for creating a peaceful Sri Lanka.
