Three police officers who were on duty at a roadblock on the Matara-Hakmana road were run over by a tipper truck, killing a police constable.
Police said the other two police Sergeants were critically injured and are undergoing treatment at the Matara Hospital.
Police officers who were on duty in Kirinda town had earlier signaled to stop a tipper truck traveling from Matara to Hakmana last night. The police officers had informed the officers at the next road block, after the driver of truck disobeyed the signal to stop. The officers also chased the tipper.
Police officers who were on duty at the Kongala 13th post roadblock on the Matara-Hakmana road had however stopped the tipper for inspection. Police said the driver was released after issuing a charge sheet over reckless driving.
The tipper which then drove towards Hakmana, had returned after about 10 minutes towards the roadblock, running over the officers on duty, police said.
The 36-year-old Constable attached to the Hakmana Police, a resident of Walasmulla was killed in the incident.
Investigations are underway to arrest the driver of the tipper truck.(DSB)

It is very obvious that the driver wanted to run over the Police for checking him, that is why he had returned back after 10 minutes. Powerful politician behind.
