Thuna Paha restaurants to go worldwide: Patali

Megapolis and Western Development Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka said that his Ministry would promote 1000 recipes of Sri Lankan cuisine abroad by setting up ‘Thuna Paha’ restaurants in different capitals.

The Minister told the Daily Mirror that Sri Lankan cuisine should go global like Thai and Chinese cuisines.

He said around 1000 traditional Sri Lankan recipes had been identified to be promoted globally through Water’s Edge hotel.

“In this hotel, we have ‘Thuna Paha restaurant’. The Water’s Edge hotel will put up similar restaurants in different world capital cities. The first one will be established in Melbourne, Australia and plan are being drawn for similar restaurants in London and New York, which are home to large Sri Lankan population,” he said.

He said Sri Lankan cuisine could be promoted globally among health-conscious people. (Kelum Bandara)

Minister, the curry food industry in UK is struggling and the crisis is known in the industry as ‘curry crisis’ and so don’t just jump in without doing market research. As you know our diasporas don’t spend at restaurants in expensive hotel. So don’t target them.

I remember how this minister talked about 15,000 cows on Sri Lankan roads and if he was to represent the people that would be one of the first things he will address. With his term ending, all those cows are still on the roads. If he can’t get a simple thing like this addressed in the own country, who is he joking with talking about international projects.

You are nuts. The quality at thuna paha at waters edge has dropped so bad. Weekdays are empty. Even your orchid restaurant is dried up. You ruined waters edge and it’s surrounding areas
