The Government led by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa will neither influence nor interfere in any judicial matter whatsoever, Minister Wimal Weerawansa said yesterday.

When asked by journalists after an event in Colombo, he said they would allow the law enforcement agencies to carry out the necessary legal process without any pressure.

Commenting on the arrest of former minister Rajitha Senaratne, the minister said it was not political revenge but under the law of the country and based on the evidence and charges against him.

"The previous government victimised us by arresting us in an unfair manner. However, we do not indulge in such political games,” he said.

Meanwhile, the minister said the statements made by JVP members regarding the recent arrests of two UNP MPs showed they were being used by the UNP.

“It is nothing new for the JVP to speak on behalf of UNP,” he said. (Sheain Fernandopulle)

If that was true you should be in jail at the moment for immigration offence of two passports, AND standing trial for your inflammatory hate speech during election campaign

Last government interfered in judicial processes. Remember them saving people who used multiple passports, false birth certificates etc.

Do you know what a judiciary is?

David Muller Saturday, 28 December 2019 04:54 PM

That is great news, so will they arrest you for the two passports? if the Judiciary is impartial they should start with you. The fists are the two passports and next comes all the insulting you do in your speeches as if an ex-minister can be arrested, they must do the same with you too. I am happy to hear that the Judiciary is impartial and will create a just society for all of us.
