The tense situation that prevailed in Parliament was a deliberate act created by the government to sabotage the parliamentary session on the bond report debate, Campaign for Free and Fair Elections (CaFFE) Executive Director Keerthi Tennakoon said.

He said the government was aware of the main culprit who should be held responsible for the bond scam, the government headed by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe wanted to create chaos in parliament and divert the attention of the MPs.

“This is for the first time in the history of parliament that such a situation was created with the intervention of a Prime Minister. We ask why the Premier was shouting ‘Mahinda hora’, when Mahinda Rajapaksa has no connection with the bond scam that took place in 2015. Thus, it is apparent that the government had intended diverting the attention of the MPs from debating the bond report,” Mr. Tennakoon said.

He said the government could not continue to get away from the issue and would have to face reality. (Sheain Fernandopulle)

How much have these guys got as bribe? They are always attacking UNP!

    Man Thursday, 11 January 2018 08:14 AM

It is 7 star democracy of Ranil and that is how, he is the leader of the UNP, for ever.

    mnsmart Thursday, 11 January 2018 08:30 AM

PM shouting Mahinda Hora cannot be accepted.

    SM Thursday, 11 January 2018 09:59 AM

Certainly yes because he was looking after all the horas and became finally became hora. He should be removed.

    Alex Thursday, 11 January 2018 08:53 AM

We are now convinced that we have a child Prime Minister.

tsunami Money Thursday, 11 January 2018 08:56 AM

Who robbed "tsunami" money in 2004 which were donated by foreign countries to the affected people?

    votyer Thursday, 11 January 2018 09:56 AM

The Tsunami fraud is not the fraud that's being debated in Parliament now but, the Bond scam. Hence please be relevant with your comment. However that doesn't mean that the Tsunami scam didn't happen and many other frauds. As we all know it happened. It's the responsibility of this govt to bring to book those responsible without just shouting that Tsunami funds were stolen and other frauds were committed by the previous regime. The big question is why this govt is not even making an effort to inquire into these frauds by the previous govt unless of-course there's an understanding between these two political figures.

CaFFE is independent or not? Thursday, 11 January 2018 09:08 AM

CaFFE is independent or not? Now 4 parties SLFP(Sirisena), UNP(Ranil), SLPP(Mahinda) and JVP(Anura) wanted to increase their votes. After declaration of a election and nomination, Prez Sirisena try to decrease UNP votes by bond summary report and now said indirectly Mahinda and Ranil are PIck Poketers. He misused EXECUTIVE POWER and delayed to submit it to Legislator Parliament(Highest place according to Constitution). Ranil's Joking behavior is not good as PM. Mahinda's former govt. also did the same .But Prez Sirisena protects Mahinda by not appointing a Prez committee for bond, Air Lanka and many more.

The question is not whether CaFFE is independent or not. What's relevant here is that it's the UNP which started this unruly behavior at the parliament yesterday. You don't need a commission to inquire into frauds the FCID can do it provided the PM has the backbone and the initiative to direct it to commence the investigation.

President why delayed to submit report to Parliment.

    BuffaloaCitizen Thursday, 11 January 2018 09:09 AM

Ranil is one of the last honest politicians but unfortunately failing in his integrity and principles. It is time the people of the nation, like what we did to Mahinda, we should vote out and get rid of this type of Politicians and create a new set of exemplary leaders.

    Sunil Thursday, 11 January 2018 09:20 AM

Of course the government is now engaged in a desperate but vain attempt to save its face. That is why even the PM had to go to such a low level in the parliament as no other PM ever dreamed of doing before. The underworld thugs are much better disciplined.

    Sharon Thursday, 11 January 2018 09:27 AM

Utter disgrace to UNP. They lost 10th Feb. election yesterday

Disgusted UNPer Thursday, 11 January 2018 09:46 AM

No amount of tongue twisting or jugglery by. Ranil. or theUNP rogues ( except the few honest UNP membersremaining amongst them ). can hoodwink. the voters.People have already decided. who the rogues. are. When RK opens his mouth to speak, it causes laughteramongst the right thinking and educated people.

    SAM Thursday, 11 January 2018 10:13 AM

He certainly has bee looking after all the horas and scams which he knows of where you may not know and finally get caught for this scam.

    Sarath Thursday, 11 January 2018 03:22 PM

The behavior of elected and un-elected members of Parliament behaved in their characteristic manner. What can you expect when there are drug dealers, crooks, opportunists and the dregs from society. Our country gets what they allow to be parliamentarians. What we need is a benevolent dictator who could drive these thugs away stop the pilfering of State Funds. Regrettably, The President and Prime Minister appear to be happy to do the things they say they loathed with the previous regime. It appears that they will do anything to stay in power. I don't know what is in store for my beloved Sri Lanka. I am 85 and I will not see this den of corruption for long.
