Taxi drivers were allowed to operate to transport employees, even across districts, to their places of work and/or home, police said today.
Police Spokesman Jaliya Senaratna said the police would look into confirming whether a passenger has been picked up from their home or workplace.
"People are not allowed to get into taxies on the roads to reach other destinations except the places of work and home. We can confirm from the drivers the place where a passenger was picked up. Therefore, taxies can be used to reach the offices, and home from the offices at the end of the day," he said. (DSB)

Is this practical? And who will monitor this process and how?

What a bunch of rubbish is this ? It says nothing about how many can travel at a time inclusive of the driver. What are we trying to do here in terms of controlling a pandemic ? Nothing !! A Taxi should be classified as a vehicle with fore wheels that has four passenger seats. A taxi curb weight (CW) of 1000kgs or less should only be permitted to carry a single paid passenger and a total of two at a time including the driver. Those vehicles that exceeding the 1000kgs of CW shall be allowed to carry two paid passengers at a time a total of three including the driver. Three-wheelers should be prohibited from cruising around town looking for people. They can be used for delivery of various goods that will not exceed its operational capacity.

So who is going to pay the fee, both ways. From the 1 billion collected so far, we presume?
