Sri Lanka's T20I captain for the tour of West Indies did not travel with the team yesterday, due to an issue relating to his visa.

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) in a statement today said Shanaka was expected to join the team at a later date.

"Shanaka confronted this issue pursuant to the loss of his passport, which had a valid visa for the USA stamped on it," the media release said.

"Sri Lanka Cricket is working closely with the relevant authorities to get the visa issue of Shanaka sorted, quickly as possible."

"He is expected to join the team once the issue is resolved," the release also said.

SLC further clarified that Shanaka had a passport with a valid US visa stamped on it, which he lost in 2018.

The delay in leaving the island with the rest of the team was due to the US authorities carrying out additional check-ups before issuing a new visa, SLC also clarified.

Shanaka was in the 20-member squad that was selected for the ODI and T20I series in the West Indies.

Why are these authorities and players so unprepared. Even a village house maid gets all documents ready before leaving the country.

Hope the passport was not sold to LTTE.
