Several UNP and TNA MPs had submitted a letter to the Speaker requesting to put on hold the appointment of a new Opposition leader, MP Ranjan Ramanayake said.
The MP said several UNP MPs including Ashu Marasinghe, Palitha Range Bandara, TNA MP M.A. Sumanthiran and himself had signed the motion.

Another Drama act has started. God, can Ranjan only act in films and not inside Parliament. Lets move on with life. It is good to have a strong opposition leader. It does n't matter who is there...if not MR then it will be Dinesh, Vasu or someone....so there is no point MR will anyway control it. Why you guys exhibit to the whole world that you are so scared of MR. Please lets end this UNP drama and get on with our lives.

This idiot still cannot understand the world of politics neither can he stop exhibiting his lack of education. Bring in a minimum educational qualification to be eligible to be a candidate for elections as well as a clean character certificate

Save Democracy Movement Wednesday, 19 December 2018 11:53 PM
Ha Ha Ha Democracy in practice
Manipulator Wednesday, 19 December 2018 11:54 PM
We need an opposition leader who supports the govt. In power
Lara Wednesday, 19 December 2018 11:55 PM
see? it wasn't about democracy.
Jiff Wednesday, 19 December 2018 11:55 PM
TNA, in government and in opposition at the same time. Should banned for violating the constitution.
Rasheed Thursday, 20 December 2018 10:44 AM
Jiff, don't get confused, Don't think that opposition leader is always against the Government. TNA supported the UNP, because it is illegal to dissolve.
Rajendran Thursday, 20 December 2018 10:54 AM
So according to you an opposition should oppose whatever ruling party says?No wonder why are wonder of Asia.
Lankan Thursday, 20 December 2018 02:46 PM
By this logic UPFA is actually IN the government (via president who holds cabinet portfolios) and also wants to be Leader of the Opposition. He should be banned for violating the constitution.. again!
Kait Wednesday, 19 December 2018 11:58 PM
Quite predictable. Trying to hijack the opposition again.
sandy123 Thursday, 20 December 2018 12:40 AM
Good move. If you work together like recently he will be kicked off from the parliament as he is a member of another party (SLPP) which does not have a parliament seat at all.
RP Thursday, 20 December 2018 01:25 AM
On 18 Dec Namal R when interviewed at Parliament corridor said he obtained Pohottuwa Membership. He was asked about MR and he said to ask MR. From his admission Namal should be unseated
Sam Thursday, 20 December 2018 02:39 AM
This is Silly. We all know TNA can not have the opposition leader based in the current demography of the parliament.
Daya Thursday, 20 December 2018 03:08 AM
If they honest with it .. 3 MPs joint with UNP also strip with their MP post.. Can they protest for that as well?
Mandayan Friday, 21 December 2018 03:42 AM
Look likes you are but ecomical with your knowledge in relevant law. When the last general election took place, SLPP non existence. Got that? Now, when 19A prevented these interparty crossovers, Tammy MPs protested and it was removed.
Leo Thursday, 20 December 2018 04:13 AM
Good move.
Tom Jones Thursday, 20 December 2018 04:32 AM
Appoint Welgama 'as Opposition Leader and Anura Kumara Opposition Whip. MR and others must be tried for treason for their part in the coup. If Sirimavo (PM) jailed those involved in the 1962 Ceylonese coup d'état attempt, why doesn't the incumbent govt not doing so now??
Baron Baaron Thursday, 20 December 2018 06:21 AM
As is, MR has dual membership - SLPP and SLFP. Until he relinquishes SLPP membership (of unregistered party), his appointment as Opp. Leader is unconstitutional.
Dhammika Thursday, 20 December 2018 06:27 AM

He was a President. Then became former president. He was a Prime minister. Then became former prime minister. Now opposition leader. Don't allow him to become former opposition leader. Please show mercy on him
People Thursday, 20 December 2018 06:43 AM
