Survey on traffic colour lights: Police

A survey for updates on all traffic light signals would be carried out aiming to reduce traffic congestion in Colombo, Traffic and Road Safety Director SSP Indika Hapugoda said.
He said the joint survey would be carried out by the Sri Lanka Police, Road Development Authority and the Colombo Municipal Council (CMC).
“The green signal countdown time on traffic lights will be increased on roads where most vehicles were travelling while the countdown time will be reduced when there were fewer vehicles, following the survey, he said.
Meanwhile, the SSP said that the traffic lane law, which was implemented on September 14, would be strictly imposed from today.
He said legal action would be taken against the motorists who drive zig-zag between lanes.

First synchronise the traffic light on the truck routes such as Galle Road and High Level Road. This will not cost a lot of money with the present technology. Use simple microcontrollers and software.

"Manual Intervention" is a problem - I understand these timings were set after much study. why then should individual policemen switch off the system. I suppose they should let the auto system operate and only watch for offenders, and situations where drivers enter the mid-intersection areas and get stuck.. in their hurry to beat a red light..

Introduction of traffic lights to ease traffic jam is good, The traffic lights must be time base or fixed time controllers The traffic Engineers must study the pattern of traffic of each junction and it must work o different dials of the day, The cycle time to be decided by Traffic Engineers by studying movements of junction by vehicle counter
