The Supreme Court today ordered the Elections Commission (EC) to hold the elections for the Elpitiya Pradeshiya Sabha after accepting the rejected nomination list of the Democratic United National Front (DUNF).
The DUNF sought redress from the SC in January last year after its nominations list was rejected at the previous local government election.
The party secretary challenged the rejection of his party’s nomination paper for the February local government polls.
The court issued an interim order preventing the EC from holding elections to the Elpitiya PS until its final determination.
The SC bench comprising of Justices Prasanna Jayawardena, Murdhu Fernando and Vijith Malalgoda today ordered the EC to accept the DUNF nominations list and hold the election for the PS immediately. (Manopriya Gunasekara)
