While saying that incidents were reported from Colombo Municipality area with regard to politicians making influential pressure on officials and thereby sabotage the vaccination drive, the Public Health Inspectors Union (PHIU) warned that they won’t hesitate to take tough action if this kind of influence continues to happen.
Speaking to the Daily Mirror, PHIU Head Upul Rohana said they would be joined by other trade unions as well if they had decided to launch such a move.
“We don’t expect such kind of behaviour from politicians who are considered as public representatives,
Although those who press the health officials with their influence are provincial politicians, we never know whether they are doing this with the blessings of the national level politicians. When these kinds of acts take place, it causes a great injustice to the vulnerable groups,” he stressed.
Hence, he urged the Government to intervene in this matter and caution such political figures not to insert pressure on health officials during the vaccination drive.
The PHIU Head reiterated that if politicians continue to act so, they will join hands with other trade unions and take appropriate action. (Sheain Fernandopulle)

I received my vaccine on the 27th of February. There was no much crowd and within a few minutes staff there gave me the vaccine. I do not understand why these political guys are influencing?
Noname Tuesday, 02 March 2021 04:04 PM
In the UK close to 20 million people vaccinated (1/3rd of the population) but only ONE minister has received the vaccine so far. That too because he had been treated for cancer in the past. In Sri Lanka less than 1/2 million people vaccinated but already more 100 parliamentarians vaccinated.
Anthony Tuesday, 02 March 2021 04:09 PM
THIS IS WHERE THE PRESIDENT IS LOOSING THE TRUST OF THE PEOPLE WHO VOTED FOR HIM DUE TO MINISTERS, HE SHOULD TAKE NECESSARY ACTION ON THE INDIVIDUAL POLITICIANS IMMEDIATELY.

Retired CEB Engineer Tuesday, 02 March 2021 05:54 PM
Reminds me as far back as in 1964 - when recruiting workmen to the then DGEU (for runner to CEB), many notes, given by politicos are brought by those seeking employment. These notes are "gratuitously"accepted", and the interview continues, with these notes put into the waste paper basket. !

GR is now in the same route of defeat as MR which he admitted not taking action on people/politicos around him. Priorities would have been given to teachers, drivers, railway station masters who issue tickets to every day travellers as such.
Demuni Uduwara Tuesday, 02 March 2021 06:48 PM
Before us GR/MR have been vaccinated! See their exemplar?
Dee Tuesday, 02 March 2021 07:22 PM
