Sri Lankan rupee hits record low of 180

The Sri Lankan rupee hit a record low of 180.6606 against the US Dollar today. According to the exchange rates of the Central Bank, the selling price of the rupee was recorded as 180.6606 against the US Dollar.

The indicative price was 178.3986 while the buying price was 176.7204.

Sirisena’s thinking is let us, look after our Rupee, let USA look after their US Dollars. We do not encourage other countries to interfere with our matters. We have our tea, coconut and rubber to look after us. Who planted and cultivated Tea, (rubber and coconut) in Sri Lanka.

I had to buy the bamboo cane every fortnight for 25 cents in Jaffna 1975 or so. And in 2003, MR was the President, I saw that product tagged with 25 Rupees! And 2014/15 it was 35 rupees. What is the prize now? Check it and you will understand inflation of the LKR. But the most irritated thing that these bamboo canes are still openly displayed and sold.

so much dollar demnad for importaion of goods needed by our high rupee earning (and educated free of charge) professionals who do not bring even a dollar into the country.
