The Finance ministry announced today that special bus services have been provided to facilitate the train commuters who were stranded due to the train strike and that private buses could operate on any route regardless of route permits.
The ministry said in a statement that the train commuters were permitted to travel on CTB buses using their train tickets or season tickets.
It said the government would repay the cost incurred by the Sri Lanka Transport Board for providing the special bus service.
The statement added that the government requested all the trade unions to come for discussions after stopping the strike.

The best way to carry out a protest is to still serve the hard working people but not charge a single rupee. This is what will hurt the government, not the protests with no proper agenda.

Introduce new union laws and break the neck of the unions like Madam Thatcher did in the UK a long time ago.

A politicaly motivated strike to criple the government. They were given Rs.10,000.00 as salary increase when the new government was formed. This is reasonable. The Private sector toils hard to feed these lethargic and indisciplined railway staff.

This Yahapalanaya doesn't have a back bone. Remember what former President Premadasa did to bus strike during his regime?

Where are the leaders in this country? Where is ranil hiding? He is the PM and should come and make a presence. No word from the president and the finance ministry. This will affect tourism as the word will go around that you cannot rely on public transport in SL. Potential investors will run away if the situations like this are allowed to continue. What a mess!
