When you disclose these things (income) to public - Worl bank and other institutions eye on this income soruce and introduce new condition to tax general public - Now world is looking for where is the money. Probably will pass a UN resolution against a build case and ask government to hand over the administration their country. Its like finding a oil in Yemen ...Next eye for fresh water ?? - we will be next victim as we got fresh drinking water

Could the authorities let the public know the cost of this highway and the payments to settle the said loan since the completion of the highway.
Unchikun Tuesday, 17 April 2018 11:05 AM
What is the cost of the Highway? What is the daily income of a normal day? If we take these into consideration, the loan for building the highway will never be paid back by the revenue earned from it. It will be paid by the poor people who have not used it in the form of indirect taxes. The need of the country is not highways or expressways. What is needed is a good and organized public bus and rail transport service. Sri Lanka roads, specially in towns can not handle the traffic This has happened in many developed countries and that is why they have good public transport.
Ss Tuesday, 17 April 2018 06:32 PM
Do you even live in Sri Lanka. You can have the world's best public transport but our cultural aspirations will make us use a car whenever possible.

Any new road or highway benefits the public but the question is at what cost. RDA reports when there is big collection. RDA should report for public information the annual revenue, running cost, loan installment etc. for few years so that cost- benefit can be understood. Most certainly government/ tax payers have to bear loan repayment costs.
Truth Tuesday, 17 April 2018 11:48 AM
The govt must release the income - expenditure details for each highway separately on a monthly basis or Quarterly basis, including the repayment of interest and capital of the construction cost. Then only we will know the real situation, whether it is making money or not.
DG Tuesday, 17 April 2018 11:50 AM
RDA reporting collection at festive times alone is not sufficient. Report overall burden or gain on the Treasury.
saranga.walimuni Tuesday, 17 April 2018 01:11 PM
This is nothing compared some of the world standard... US 2 million revenue last year against nearly $870 initial investment almost a joke..

Get your facts before condemning something good. Just appreciate the good done by MR.

RDA authorities, should open up with a 35 to 50 % off on all highways , apart from Katunayake , during the peak traffic times , to create a high volume income. This action would also certainly ease much traffic on all main roads.RDA , FOR YOUR THOUGHTS!
