The National Security Council (NSC) last night decided to extend the reopening date of all schools and universities till May 6, the President's Media Division (PMD) said.
The NSC convened at the President's Secretariat was chaired by President Maithripala Sirisena to discuss the ongoing situation.
The NSC discussed to provide maximum security to examination centres and it requested all parties not to hold any May Day rallies.
The NSC also approved the beefing up of security provided to state institutions, hotels and other places where people frequent.
It was revealed at the meeting that a large number of suspects and explosives were seized by the police during the past few days.
President Sirisena instructed the security agencies to take measure to eradicate terrorism from Sri Lanka by continuing the joint search operations.
