Sarath Weerawansa bailed out under special circumstances

Former Minister Wimal Weerawansa's brother Sarath Weerawansa, who was in remand custody on charges of causing a loss of Rs.10.5 million to the government was today released on bail by Colombo Fort Magistrate Lanka Jayaratne under special circumstances.


The Magistrate released him on a Rs. 250,000 cash bail and two sureties of Rs. 100,000 each.


The suspect was arrested by the FCID under the Public Property Act for allegedly misusing a government vehicle attached to the Presidential Secretariat and obtaining fuel allowance from the Housing and Construction Ministry, which incurred a loss of Rs.10.5 million to the Government.(Shehan Chamika Silva)
