Controversial ‘Water Creatures Beach Guest Restaurant & Surf Bar’ in Mirissa, where a group of Dutch tourists were brutally assaulted, has been shut down following an order from the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA) a short while ago.

Six suspects were earlier arrested by Weligama Police in connection with the incident and remanded until April 19 after the Daily Mirror exposed the incident. (Thilanka Kanakarathna)

Yes, you are correct, these types of business cannot be operated by ordinary citizen,it has to be either Politician or Top Police officials

This really good decision, This bar owners must be fined and punished by courts. Being attacked western tourist is severely negative effects on tourism and Foreign investment , bad effect on our Sri Lankan culture. Well done Government action.

What happened to the criminals involved in these atrocious heinous crimes assaulting Tourists visiting Sri Lanka?Let us hope they will be in Prison for a LONG time suffering under the watchful eyes of the Prison Officers who hopefully will teach them a thing or two about treating visitors to Sri Lanka respectfully and as well as possible. That's a good start. But now, there must be an investigation why this unregistered restaurant was allowed to operate for so long. I remember this place was in the news regarding a similar incident some years ago as well, but it has continued to operate until now. Also, where were the Tourist Police when this attack took place?

Yes, the culprits are very likely guilty. The shop needs to be shut down too. Although due process needs to be followed. So its best to say "shut down till investigations are complete" or something along these lines.
