Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka took oath as a Member of the Parliament before the speaker Karu Jayasuriya a short while ago.
The United National Party's working committee on Monday decided to appoint Field Marshal Fonseka as a UNP national list MP, a seat which was left vacant by the recent demise of Minister M. K. A. D. S Gunawardene.

What is that when compared to a President of allmighty powers becoming just a MP.
UNP Gamarala Tuesday, 09 February 2016 04:11 PM
UNP was talking about increasing the number of women in parliament, in fact 50%. We have a die hard personality in the name of Rosie Senanayake who could not secure a seat but would have been a better choice to be nominated to the parliament on the national list. Which gender are we trying to promote this way by giving a life line to a party that could not muster even ten thousand votes.
