Residents in several areas in Ratnapura District including Getangama, Muduwa and Ratnapura town were evacuated due to floods, the Disaster Management Center (DMC) Assistant Director Pradeep Kodippili said.
Meanwhile, the National Building Research Organization (NBRO) issued a red warning to residents of Eheliyagoda, Ayagama, Ratnapura, Elapatha, Kuruwita and Pelmadulla Divisional Secretariats and advised them to evacuate to safer areas if the rains to continue.
The NBRO also warned the residents in Dehiowita in Kegalle and Bulathsinhala in Kalutara to evacuate to safer areas if the rains continue.
