Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa today directed Health Minister Pavithra Vanniarachi to recruit retired nurses on contract basis and service requirements.
The directive was made during a discussion held with Trade Unions at Temple Trees today.
The Prime Minister also inquired the progress of extending the service period of the nurses.
Health Ministry Secretary said that a Cabinet Paper has been presented for the approval to extend service period of nurses to 63.

First vaccinate them and let them wait for 3 months for the second dose. Then recruit them on contact basis.

Normally, the thinking would have been “Recurit Retired Doctors “ but we have seen during this pandemic that what the doctors do is neither intellectual nor it is difficult and it could be done by anyone with about six months of training.
